You are a beautiful person

Ti si prekrasna osoba, video installation , HR, 2006
Tanja Dabo: You are a beautiful person

T. Dabo: You are a beautiful person

The topic of the film You are a beautiful person is the human desire and need to 'be good', 'be straight', and is at the same time a provocation for detecting the digression, deformation and deviation from the model of the perfect man. The film is an ironic glance at our readiness to always rather believe the flattery of others than question our own qualities and face ourselves.
In the form of an installation, the work communicates with viewers directly and personally, while trying to flatter them, but at the same time questioning our own idealization of ourselves.

FeedForward Cinema

FeedForward Cinema is an non-narrative audiovisual project which explores the infinite space created by the closed circuit of information, created by visual feedback of two video devices constantly feeding each other. Like with the microphony in sound, thus created loop becomes a new instrument of its own – a video device one can play (with). Because of the amplifying processing induced by the identical loop visual effects emerge, results of the specific micro glitches rendered by the use of the related signals.

Flag Metamorphoses

Flag Metamorphoses

Between each two flags, scenes appear that show an aspect of the relations between the two countries. This series of animations is an exploration into the meaning of imagery on flags, aiming to create interrelated associations through questioning, reassessing, fluidizing and re-mixing of diverse national iconography. Flag Metamorphoses lays stress on the relations between nations and identities as changing ones: Only in the permanent re-creation of values, symbols and ways of life, in mixing with others and differing from others, cultures and societies stay alive. Each artist who creates a flag animation expresses such a relation in his/her own way.

Beautiful World

video installation, NL, 2006
Mieke Gerritzen: Beautiful World

Mieke Gerritzen: Beautiful World

Beautiful World is a film to read or typography to look at, as it contains text only: quotes by well-known and less well-known thinkers who are shaping an image of the world. Its main topic is globalization, as it seeks to demonstrate that the world is being 'dumbed down' because practically everything has been linked to economic interests. Repetition and familiarity render a picture of our era, emphasizing the aesthetic character of the consumer industry. Tracing the visual language of signs, codes and trends with the goal of deploying products, visions, statements, politics, subcultures and everything possible in the name of the visible economic growth, the work is also about a visual culture in which form and content are no longer presented separatly and the boundaries of entertainment and high culture are unclear. It shows the reality of media, matter and words. Beautiful World becomes a visual machine for the meaning, manipulation and seduction of the word.
