Animated Drawingslive audiovisual performance, PT, 2004
Animated Drawings consists of the live video manipulation of original black-and white drawings, screened in their original form and with image parameter changes in order to achieve the production of movement, anima and profundity. In this first version I used a video jamming software controlled by an oxygen midi, a laptop, video projector, voice, piano and actual exhibition of the original drawings. The idea was to give shape to a piano song voice concert in which the voice acts like the piano and the piano (the midi controller) acts as if images were played according to the way electronic music is played. The traditional intimate place of the atelier was transferred to the public space of performance, where visual improvisation is tuned with a more direct expression of a vital energy, free of the narrowing structures of rationality, understood as a civilizational process... With the live collaboration of António Pedro this work in progress is being expanded into an actual dialogue, by the association of sound, words and music to the images; by the work on the drawings conceived in consonance with the possibilities of live digital manipulation; by experimentations on the integration of new electronic linking elements as a live camcorder, focused on the actual act of drawing; etc... In this simultaneous approach on composition and interpretation of images in movement with sound and spoken words, I’m establishing a link with the figure of the early cinema conferencist-musician. |
