Antonin De Bemels: Merge

Three characters, three bodies, three trajectories:
Piéton walks through the city, Pensée looses herself in her thoughts, Pantin slowly gets out of his immobility… A short film about how to deal with the reality that surrounds us. Some will work their way through it, some will merge into it, some will melt into thin air… Movement is the key.

Antonin De Bemels: il s'agit

In this videographical proposition De Bemels continues his exploration of the physical and the visual limitations of movement, dance and the human body. Central focus is on a static composite torso; it seems to blend in with the rhythmically invigorating limbs of dancer Ugo Dehaes, eyes closed, his head twisting like that of a puppet. Il s'agit offers an illusory and complex metaphor, relating the human body to machine-like patterns and shapes. In a cybernetic 'ballet mécanique' of fluttering, wriggling arm gestures the organism seems to develop and multiply itself, and then reassemble for a short but peaceful moment.'

Bonhomme Daniel

In this performance, the focus is on a masked character named 'Bonhomme Daniel'. He is a solitary fellow, spending his time reading or purposelessly laying on the moquette in his scarcely furnished apartment. His visual appereances take various shapes, depending on his mood: a masked real-life being, a little puppet, a drawing. From an apparently still and boring subject, the idea is to create a dynamic and consistent mixture of feelings and sensations, making out the portrait of someone that could be me, but in which anyone may also recognize a part of himself… In each live session, the various video sequences or 'scenes' appear in a different order, their original continuity is manually disturbed using the 'scrub' feature of my editing software. And all these ‘remixed’ video sequences are inlaid with drawings and almost abstract textures. Everything is prepared except the final result…
