On-Dit

The videoimage shows a slowed down macro-shot of a prayer cord (catholic rosary or islamic tesbih). The string of pearls is divided in short sequences where single paerls fall one on another. The formally reduced motive is also cut into single frames, containing only the important information. The pearls seem to develop its own dynamic. These short scenes are combined in a new way that points out the different sorts of movements. The change between these short fragments happens in a lively – aggressive rhythm. The digital treatment of the videomaterial is in contrast to the meditativ and contemplating way of praying. The agressive cut of sound and images opens up a new spectrum of interpretations of the different religions, without personal valuations of the different religious dogmas. At the same time, the abstraction of the digital message offers a new way of perception with meditativ qualities.
