Jowita Kepa is a Toronto based artist, who works with various mediums, video being her main focus. Her work involves meditative and often eruptive mechanical abstractions that convey the internal rhythm and structure of the technology itself. Her aim is to convey the 'addictive beauty of the electrical charge that invisibly enters and corrodes the flesh.' She is presently working on a new single channel video and a large digital installation involving vintage computers.

Static Discharge is composed of abstractions created from signal interference. Graphic lines of feedback distort any form of representation and the picture frame is continuously disrupted. The flickering movement appears as if fed by an electric current with a faulty conductor-- the electronic waves seem to split and repeat themselves without fully transmitting. This is a composition of video noise that creates a specialized reality. It violently assaults the nerves. Electricity grinds with flesh, revealing the harsh beauty inherent in a mechanical medium.
